Is there an alternative to CITRIX Metaframe to let an application to be access remotely?

I have an Inventory Management System installed in the office and thru an experience, to be able to let the said application to be access remotely, I should have Windows Server licensed plus a Terminal Server license too which is very expensive setup. Would there any other way to avoid spending too much money? thank you in advance...

  1. You could use TightVNC or Remote Desktop. Both of them are free. Remote Desktop is built into Windows. Now, I wouldn't suggest using them without them being wrapped in a Virtual Private Network (VPN) because they are inherently insecure. You could use something like OpenVPN, another free product, to wrap them in a secure tunnel between locations. Otherwise, you may end up getting owned, as people look for open Remote Desktop and TightVNC connections to see if they can get on. WG
  2. Whats your budget? Free is not realistic. Consulting time is not free even if the product is. Support costs are not free either. What type of firewall does your company have? You might be able to use some features like SSL VPN on it if its a Cisco ASA.
